For Yris, sharing Jesus with the world is her sole purpose of living. As a Dominican Republic native, she has spent the last 36 years of her life as an active member in her community, helping the needy and sharing her faith. This all came to a halt when she was diagnosed with cancer, which kept her from leaving her house or interacting with her family members.
“I could not leave the fours walls in my room. After the chemo, my immune system deteriorated, causing an acute allergy to food and human contact. I kept praying to God. I knew he was keeping me alive for a purpose.”
After much prayer, Yris remembered hearing about a ministry that would allow her to share the Gospel without putting her life at risk. “A classmate from seminary had mentioned Global Media Outreach to me before I fell ill. I was allergic to everything and anything... but I was not allergic to a computer.”
Yris signed up to become an Online Missionary, and for the last thirteen years she has trained other online missionaries in Latin America.
“The biggest reward about serving with Global Media Outreach is seeing the transformed lives. I’ve seen marriages restored. People whom I’ve discipled for years now share Jesus in their homes and are active members of their church. Global Media Outreach made me realize that even though we are unfaithful to the Lord in many ways, he is faithful in every way. He will always provide and as long as I have breath, I will serve the Lord.”
